With the large-scale development and application of network, communication and computer systems, the engine room security issues become increasingly important. Room security involves a variety of different power and environmental equipments. Without unified security monitoring and alarming platform for the engine room caused problems. In this paper, combined with the actual hardware environment, summing up the experience of monitoring systems development, the author designs and implements the monitoring and alarming system for engine room security according to the idea of modern software engineering. The system adopts an open design that is compatible with equipments using various communication interfaces and communication protocol standards. Customers can monitor any device equipment through a unified graphical user interface. Various alarm modes and fast alarming raises the ability of respond to incidents, reduces damage and loss caused by accidents. The system consists of three modules:data acquisition, data storage, display and real-time alarm, and the multithreading technology improve CPU utilization and user response time.1) Data acquisition module involves different equipment, communication interfaces, and in order to improve the system scalability, the system uses XML files as the parameter library to store the hardware information. System first analyzes different representations of data and conversion between them, and introduces the main communication protocol standards. Second, the data collection process is reasonably designed not only to achieve real-time data collection, but also can control the collection process. Finally, the System introduces the java implementation of communication, such as Ethernet, serial, GPIB etc.2) In data storage and display module, the author designs a ring buffer to avoid frequent database operations, adopts Ajax technology to achieves real-time data display to enhance the user experience.3) In real-time alarm modules, the author designs phone alarm, e-mail alarm and web page alarm to promptly notify the targeted customers. The system designs a communication protocol to send text messages and call customers according to the characteristics of GSM Modem hardware. System implements e-mail alarm with Java Mail, implements web page alarm with Ajax. After a month of testing, system stability and real-time has been verified. The system has been applied to a TV room and has made some economic and social benefits.
