As the heart of a ship, marine power guarantees the ship's vitality and durability. With the rapid development of the ship automation technology ,there are great strategic significance and enormous social & economic benefits with the research and development of an networking, systematic,modular and intelligent engine control system to improve and enhance the level of China's marine diesel engine control system., has become a new generation of power monitoring system's inevitable development direction.CAN bus is a kind of serial communication network which can support distributed control and real-time control effectively, thus,it shows great advantages and potential applications in the marine power monitoring area.However CAN bus just define the function of physical layerand data link layer,makes different products lack of compatibility, interchangeability and interoperability.In this paper, Based on the corresponding research achievements abroad and domestic status of the technology, addressed the study of CAN communication of modular Marine Diesel Engine Monitoring and Control System, and used other CAN application layer protocol's excellence for reference,the authors made a good attempt to design a new CAN bus application layer protocol named CANmarine. The author described the protocol in several key technologies: the assignment of message, the transmission rules of message, the network management, the description of standard equipment and so on. Based on the CANmarine protocol, with demand for the actual project The author design several intelligent modules in the marine diesel engine monitoring system. At the end,based on MC9S12DG128B microprocessor platform, The author introduced marine diesel engine monitoring system CAN communication interface hardware design and CANmarine protocol software C-code implementation.
