The marine environmental information is the primary decision-making basis of marine exploitation, marine environmental protection, military affairs safeguard and ocean administration. With the rapid development of marine science and technology and the demand expansion for its application, the mankind extraordinary needs more marine environmental information. China is a country which has about 3 million square kilometers sea areas , the ocean is extremely important to China's economic, political, defense. With timely and reliable information on the marine environment has a crucial role to disaster forecasting, marine resources development and maintenance of sea power.The marine environmental information acquisition and processing system incorporates embedded technology, network communication technology, database technology, it is mainly an integrated ocean temperature, salinity, density, water depth, currents, tides, sea meteorological information and many other information,it is provide the necessary support and protection for ship navigation, manipulation and other activities.This article first introduces the research background of this project significance and status of foreign researchers and made a classification of marine environmental information for ship, a comprehensive exposition of the VxWorks operating system and its development condition, the composition and characteristics, and then the focus of this paper do research and design on the marine environmental information acquisition and processing.The part of the marine environmental information acquisition, firstly we designed the hardware platform to collect information on the marine environment. it is mainly using thermohaline deep-sensor, meteorological instrument and so on, through the PC/104 bus,transfer the marine environmental information to the database server. the acquisition part of the software design is mainly for I/O device to do the driving and serial port.The marine environmental information processing system is mainly the use of real-time database of information processing, first it made an analysis of embedded real-time database introduced, according to the system of the characteristics we selected memory and powerful hybrid database eXtremeDB, and introduced its own characteristics. Secondly, according to the steps of the database design ,we made the overall design to the ship the marine environmental information database,including needs analysis, conceptual model design, logic design, physical design and so on. and then made a detailed design on the marine environmental information databases. it is mainly including eXtremeDB development process, define the data dictionary frame, data access methods, basic operations, transaction control, security with recovery and so on.Finally, we designed the user interface and client server for the ship using information on the marine environment using interface empolder tool Qt, completed the information in real-time display and query, and we have a test to the capability of the eXtremeDB .it met the requirements of the marine environmental information systems support and protection of information .
