Human sensory perception for the outside world mainly depends on its sensory systems, such as the visual system, the auditory system, the tactile system, the taste system and the olfactory system. Among them, the visual system is the most important one.And about 80% information which is perceived by Human brain from the outside world, is treatmented by the visual system. Visual function implementation requires a perfect visual pathway and any visual injury suffered in the pathway will lead to visual disability or visual loss. That can make the patients lose the ability obtaining external information by the sensory system. So a visual prosthesis helps the blind patients to regain some visual function through the artificial means to establish a complete visual pathway, which brings a holp to the blind people. However, the development of the visual prosthesis is facing many difficulties and challenges, for example the effectiveexpression of the outside image information. The perception and understanding are the core issues of the image processing system of a visual prosthesis.Based on the depth study of the physical characteristics of the visual cortex, to explore the expression of an efficient method of achieving a image processing strategies can be used in visual cortex prosthesis.Main tasks are as follows:1.Through the visual prosthesis and visual image processing algorithm used in the prosthesis in detail, analysising some difficulties,limitations and deficiencies faced by the current image processing visual prosthesis. Construction for this article, a certain research approach for the image processing strategy.2.Through the the study of the physiological characteristics of visual system, analyzing perception mechanisms of the neurons in different parts of visual pathway to the image information of the outside world, and the response characteristics of the visual system itself to image information of the outside world,understanding the image information processing system of the visual system, to lay the physiological basis of this article.3.Combining theory and visual computing model, Proposed expression the visual image in the form of the basis function effectively. And through to analysis the basic function extracted from the visual images by different models, such as sparse coding (SC) model, independent component analysis (ICA) model, topology independent component analysis (TICA) model, which can simulate the perceptual characteristics of the nerve cells of the visual system to the image of outside world effectively. To provide theoretical support for this study.4. Learn feature selection mechanism of visual cortex visual system,design image feature matching model, a method of basis functions in the form of the image edge information, and with conventional edge detection algorithm to extract the edge map compared to verify the feasibility and effectiveness.5.Based on the sparse response and synchronous oscillation characteristics of the visual cortex,proposed a image processing strategy based on sparsity and synchronization. The strategy based on the physiological characteristics of visual system and the basic functions, to combine the visual images of the outside world and the physical structure of visual images effectively. Simulation the synchronous oscillation characteristics of the visual system through Pulse coupled neural network (PCNN), to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the strategies by simulation and analysis.
