Synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) is an extension of classical radar techniques developed in the first half of the 20th century, which has over 30 years history up to now. Especially, the Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (D-InSAR) has the advantages of high sensitivity of deformation, high spatial resolution and no constraints from weather conditions. Although D-InSAR has been successfully used for deformation mapping, it is easily suffered from both spatial and temporal decorrelation which limits its application, especially for long-term deformation mapping. To overcome these limitations, the researchers started to pay attention to the study of small crustal deformation in a long time series. Based on the traditional D-InSAR algorithm, two techniques of InSAR time series analysis have been proposed to solve these limitations in the traditional D-InSAR method. These two InSAR time series analysis methods are Permanent scatterer InSAR (PS-InSAR) and Small Baseline Subset InSAR (SBAS-InSAR). The main research work and contributions are as follows:1) We introduced the basic principles of traditional InSAR technique. By analyzing and summarizing the limitations in the traditional D-InSAR technology, we presented the necessary of the research of InSAR time series analysis methods. At the same time, we analyzed the ability of the InSAR time series analysis methods to monitoring the long-time slow crustal deformation.2) As the main theoretical basis, we introduced the detailed principles of the PS-InSAR and SBAS-InSAR technology. Based on the introduction of these basic principles, I made some further research and analysis on the key techniques in these two InSAR time analysis methods.3) We Apply the new PS-InSAR, which was proposed by Andy Hooper in Stanford University, and the SBAS-InSAR methods to Yangbajing basin (located in Damxung city) to carry out the InSAR time series analysis. Through the estimating and subtracting the variety of errors, we derived the crustal deformation in our test area, including the mean los velocity and the deformation time series. By the analyzing of the two deformation results derived from these two methods, we find that the main deformation trend derived from these two methods are consistent.4) Combined with the background of the geology structure, we carried out the analysis both on the point deformation and the regional deformation. Based on the deformation analysis, we concluded the deformation trend of the test area. Through the characteristics and trend of the regional deformation, we analyzed the activity of the faults across this test area.
