The Third Plenary Session of the11th Central Committee was held in Beijing in1978.Itis a time when our country and people experienced "Cultural Revolution" and faced a criticalmoment. The plenum decided to shift the focus of the party’s work to socialismmodernization. Reform and opening up policy, which was vital to the destiny ofcontemporary China, was carried out and a new era of socialist modernization with Chinesecharacteristics began. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, people of allnationalities worked hard. In the30years of reform and opening up, the country has maderemarkable achievements, which not only changed the face of China, but also enhancedChina’s international status.China’s reform and opening up has made remarkable achievements. Firstly, thesocialism with Chinese characteristics flourishes. They are mainly as follows: due to China’srapid economic growth, it has developed into an industrial economic power; socialistdemocratic politics show vitality; socialist culture with Chinese characteristics developsprosperously; social construction begins and construction of a harmonious society areremarkable; construction of ecological civilization is put forward and it gets the attention.Secondly, China’s reform and opening to promotes the great rejuvenation of the Chinesenation and weaves a beautiful Chinese dream for the future of the Chinese nation, but alsoprovides a useful reference for the development of mankind. Finally, the Chinese CommunistParty, as the ruling party, also made great achievements, such as the party’s ideological andtheoretical construction, organization construction, institution construction, anti-corruptionand promoting probity.Communist Party of China’s reform and opening up gained valuable experience. At thattime, based on a clear analysis and understanding of the situation, the Communist Party ofChina put forward the theory of primary stage of socialism, and with the guidance of "trialand error" it reformed progressively and dealt with the relationship among reform,development and stability properly, and always put people first and respected for thepioneering spirit of the people. Combined with the party construction, it explored a road ofsocialism with Chinese characteristics suited to China’s national conditions and development,improved the relevant systems and theory, created theoretical system of socialism withChinese characteristics, created the conditions for the great rejuvenation of the Chinesenation, which enhanced the determination and confidence of further reform and opening up.These great achievements of reform and opening up and the valuable experience isworth thinking and summarizing, especially at the stage of the reform, experience andlessons should be learned in order to get a better future. Therefore, this paper reviews thehistorical process of China’s reform and opening up, discusses the leadership of theCommunist Party of China, concludes the great achievements of reform and opening up,summarizes the basic experience of successful reform and opening up, analyzes theshortcomings of reform and opening up and proposes some suggestions in order to make alittle contribution to the research.
