A Study On The Influence Of Body Cleansing And Cultural Start - Up On College Students' Situational Morality

For a long time, moral judgments and reasoning play an important role in the study of morality. Moral Sensitivity is a new research field following moral judgment and moral reasoning, it’s the logical starting point of moral behavior and ahead of moral judgment. Nowadays kinds of immorality phenomenon are exposed by the mass media,making citizens anxious and be confused. Moral Sensitivity can help us understand today’s moral dilemma and it will be a good breakthrough point. Contextual moral sensitivity refers to the psychological ability that individuals need to perceive the moral hints and problems and evaluate the context from the respect of moral thinking. Domestic researches on moral sensitivity is placed in the stage of beginning, not yet researchers explore moral sensitivity from the perspective of moral metaphor, the ways of body cleaning are confined to directly washing and smell, and focusing on moral judgment area.Therefor,this research examines whether two different types of physical cleanliness could may college students higher contextual moral sensitivity, and the combination of physical cleanliness and a particular cultural values priming could affect college students’ contextual moral sensitivity.The results showed that:(1)The physical cleanliness has an significant effect on the basic contextual moral sensitivity,but has not significant effect on the contextual moral sensitivity.(2) Subjects in the environmental cleanliness condition compare with subjects in the condition of filthy environment have higher contextual moral sensitivity scores. The cleanliness of physical environment can make college students be more sensitive of moral implications.(3) In different environmental cleanliness conditions state(clean and filthy) and two kinds of cultural priming(individualism and collectivism) have no effect on contextual moral sensitivity.This research draws the following conclusion: in the context of Chinese culture,the research proved that directly hand washing can make college students "aware of" implicit meaning in the issues, but only the superficial level,these moral thinking do not touch the essence of the moral issues in the situation. The cleanliness of physical environment can enhance college students’ contextual moral sensitivity.The combination of Environmental cleanning and particular cultureal priming have no effect on contextual moral sensitivity.
