Lydmila Ulitskaya is one of the most famous Russian contemporary female writers. The novel The Green Tent, which was published in 2011, was the latest work of the writer.Ulitskaya has a deep concern about historical and sociological issue. Showing her humanistic attitude, the writer put great efforts in observing and demonstrating ordinary people’s life, searching for the meaning of life. Meanwhile, the writer’s unique writing technique and language style also attract researchers’ attention.As always, in The Green Tent Ulitskaya explores series of realistic issues, such as the relationship between individuals and history, the moral awakening in human lives and the family ties of modern people. The way Ulitskaya depicts her characters plays an important role in bringing up her main ideas whilst promoting the readers to take a deeper look into the novel.In the thesis, we will be analyzing the theme of the novel and the writer’s main idea, the technique she uses in depicting the main characters and how she reveals her thoughts about history, morality and family.
