High school student is the second acceleration period for teenagers’physical and mental development during their self growth. However, the speed of high school student physical development in high school student has certain hysteresis quality compared with the speed of psychological maturity. So they often have many emotional problems. Facing the problems like interpersonal relationship and examination pressure, high school students often have more negative emotions which have a significant impact on their physical and mental development. At present there is no unified method to define the high school students with dysthymia, and in psychological research and medical diagnosis, standardized scale or Chinese mental disorders classification and diagnostic criteria are put into use. But most research and diagnosis focus on emotional disorders for adults and definition, sources and therapeutic method for children and adolescents dysthymia, they lack auxiliary tools of psychological assessment for high school students with dysthymia. Therefore, this study intends to use mature Sandplay therapy to analyze initial Sandplay features of high school students with dysthymia.This study used measurement table for high school students with dysthymia, taking first grade and second grade students who came from a high school in Shenyang as the sample. The study used random sampling method, randomly selecting 360 students from four classes of two grades, conducting a questionnaire survey, and then screening 25 high school students with dysthymia as the experimental group; randomly selecting 25 students from high school students with good emotion as control group; and 50 pieces of initial Sandplay works were collected. Through experimental group of high school students with dysthymia and control group of initial Sandplay, coding research was conducted from seven dimensions, including the types and the number of sand, presented scenes, sand, self-image presentation, subject characteristics, production time and scene features.The study shows that if the visitors spend less production time and use a small number of sand table works, nearly motionless sand, showing antagonistic or static scenes of family, countryside and zoo, focusing on the themes of wounding which include chaos, dissociation, receiving, neglect, tilt oblique and incompletion, and this can be used to identify if the high school students have the main characteristics of dysthymia, distinguish them from the high school students with good emotion, and give sustained and effective counseling and intervention to them.
