The principle for governmentto give salary to officials were“position’s rangking” and”zhi shi”, while the relationship between them was not corresponding.What more the salary was made up of several different parts, such as currency, rice, textiles, even the slave was a part of the officials’ salary. In middle term of South Dynasty,central government used the currency to provide salary more frequently.During the ruling of Liu Song Dynasty, the system of nobility title almost the same as it in West and East Jin Dynasty. There were three rank: the king title, the five different rank marquis titles, the ordinary marquis title, but a new nobility title came up in Liu Song Dynasty,it also was the five different rank marquis,while the awarded officials cannot own the feud.The birth of this system was tightly linked to confliction of Liu Yu with other important leaders in Bei Fu, and sticking up for the benefit of Bei Fu clique. In regard with the earn from the nobility title, it almost remained the same situation, comparing with the West Jin Dynasty and East Jin Dynasty.Except the salary and he earn from the nobility title, the officials in Liu Song Dynasty had other income, including occupying the land illegally and stole population from government “Song Gu”, extort excessive taxes and levies, and the awarding from emperor.
