Bian Min Tu Zuan is an encyclopedia for daily use in Ming Dynasty, including agriculture, sericulture, arboriculture, divination, good health, diet, living and so on. This entries reflected people’s daily life in Ming Dynasty. The current popular versions of this book are Jiajing wangzhenji version and Wanli yu yongqing version.Jiajing version doesn’t record any author’s information in the book, however Wanli yuyongqing version records Kuangfan. The first two chapters of this book are farming and weaving pictures, these parts play an important role in woodcut history, the later fourteen chapters of this book are text, farming, sericulture, arboriculture, divination, living, medicine, feeding animals and manufacture which are related to people’s daily life are introduced separately.Until now, there are fairy rare research findings about this book, and most of them focus on studying agriculture knowledge in this book, defining this book as an agricultural book. Though agriculture knowledge is an important part in this book, other fields of knowledge is also included. The contents all aspects of people’s living life, so in my point of view, this book is an encyclopedia for daily use.Thus, this article is going to divide into seven parts to study it:First part is an exordium, introducing the reason why I choose Bian Min Tu Zuan as a study object, study situation and the study method of this book.Body part:The first chapter introduces the author of this and book properties. Generally speaking, there are two point of viewers are accepted by most people.The first one is Kuangfan, and the other is anonymous person. Firstly, I make an introduction to Kuangfan and his family.On the book properties,that because in term of contend,the book concluded agriculture, sericulture,medicine,diet,daily trivial matters and so on.The second chapter introduces the version and contents of Bian Min Tu Zuan. The book is on the base of Bian Min Zuan which is the first edition of Bian Min Tu Zuan. Bian Min Tu Zuan recompiling the contents and add picture in the original edition.The book has two common versions:Jiajing twenty three year Wang zhenji version and Wanli twenty one year yu yongqing version. Finally, the contents and form of this book will be introduced from macro perspective.The third chapter introduces the woodcut history and the farming and weaving pictures in this book. First of all, the political and economy environment provided a good environment for Ming dynasty woodcut booming. Secondly, the Farming and Weaving Pictures in Bian Min Tu Zuan has its own characteristic.Besides, Zheng zhenduo as an expert in woodcut make a high assessment in this book.The forth chapter discusses the agriculture and pragmatic value.The artcle will from farming, arboriculture and silkworm-textile to research the agriculture value,and from diet,cloth cleaning and domestic fixing to research the pragmatic value.The fifth chapter discusses the medical value of Bian Min Tu Zuan.The article introduces the medical contents in the book at first, and then discusses the medical value. At last discuss the relationship between Bian Min Tu Zuan and other books.The last chapter discusses the shortcomings of this book.The book still has shortcomings on layout and some contents.
