Museums are exclusively characterized by their distinctive advantages, that no other social groups may compete to obtain, as playing a primary role in popularizing calligraphy art education. Calligraphy art museums, in particular, based on their superiority of resourceful collections as well as a highly centralized audience profile, should thus assume more responsibility for public education of Chinese calligraphy. During the Second Session of the Eleventh CPPCC National Committee in 2009,42 Committee members jointly proposed to establish calligraphy museum in China, while Chinese calligraphy, together with seal engraving, was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity World Heritage by UNESCO in the same year. Therefore, the Chinese calligraphy education and calligraphy museums have, since then, become a hot topic of ceaseless discussion and constant attention.Unsupported by systematical theories, however, the category of calligraphy museums, to some extend, sequaciously and randomly practise open education based on empirical intuition alone. As museum was first conceptualized and developed in the historical context of Western culture, with an innate emphasis on universal public education awareness, there is an apparent divergence when comparing it to the traditional pass-on pattern of privacy-heavy calligraphy education in China. Therefore in the situation of lacking of proper models and strategies for Chinese calligraphy education in the museums, the museum implementer should re-assess and look back to the traditional calligraphy teaching methods, integrating the merits of current university models as well as setting the idea of Chinese calligraphy education into the museum’s pedagogical system, so that the Chinese calligraphy education in museum can be developed in an organic way based on the joint ideas. Taking learner-centered concept as the basic principal, and the comprehensiveness, the fairness and the self interest initiation as the preconditions, supplemented by logical thinking, museum education should explore a tailor made calligraphy education model that base on learner’s everyday experiences, targeting on everyday practices and by effecitve implementation to achieve the best results of Chinese calligraphy education.
