Current Situation And Prospect Of Chinese Calligraphy Education In American Universities

In this paper, through our investigation and analysis of the Chinese calligraphy courses of eight colleges in the States, we will first introduce the current status of the American universities’ Chinese calligraphy teaching, including the teaching of theory and brush writing. We point out the characteristics of the Chinese calligraphy teaching in the American universities,showing students’ works, and suggesting the ways of developing the Chinese calligraphy education at the American college level in the future from the perspectives of teachers’ training, teaching methods and the calligraphy-related activities on campus. We hope that more and more American colleges will offer the Chinese calligraphy courses and the prospect that Chinese calligraphy becomes internationalized will come true soon.
