According to the structural types of Guzheng works, Chinese Guzheng works before the1980 s can be roughly divided into the traditional Guzheng works and other works that use the Western traditional principles of musical forms. Both of them present their common features on the structural forms and constitution methods. After the 1980 s, Chinese creators of Guzheng music gradually had access to Western modern music and began to compose a large number of Chinese contemporary Guzheng works, which utilize Western modern composition skills. These works all contain factors of Chinese traditional music in different degrees, and composition idea and techniques of Western modern music. It has various structural forms, unconventional performance style, and diversified creative features, which mark Chinese Guzheng composition has entered a new historical period.In order to objectively study the structural forms of Chinese contemporary Guzheng works, this thesis chooses eight representative contemporary works. It overall analyses composition of each piece, then intensively expound the typical structural identity and constitution methods, and further clarify that contemporary Guzheng music does not use unified structure of Chinese traditional Guzheng music or unique structure of modernists in the 20 th century, but it shows compositive structure approach regarding the structure rule of Chinese traditional music, the building skills of Western traditional music and the new thought and composition techniques of modern music in 20 th century. The composition of Chinese contemporary Guzheng works truly follow the structural logic of Chinese and Western music, which means that it has made a great progress in this new era.
