In the contemporary literary world, Lin Jinlan is known as the "master of short stories". His novels, such as "the praise of the advanced people in the socialist society" series novels, "ten year ten hysteria"series novels,after "ten year ten hysteria" series novels,and "low stool bridge" series strories, though short in words, reflected the depth and width of history and social issues, and formed a unique style of writing. In these works, the author never stopped exploring the art of writing. "Every piece of story has its unique style", as Huang Ziping commended. However, the style of Lin’s novel, a result of painstaking efforts and elaborate experiments by the author, is deemed to be "confuse and obscure" by critics and readers. Since special decryption is required before these articles are prepared to be read, some reader even call them " weird novels".Based on an overview of his short stories, in this article I will try to analyze two issues. First, I will analyze his writing attitude and why he stuck to his style, based on his personal experience. Combine this with his creation between 1950 and 1960 and in the new era, I will analysis in depth his writing style. Furthermore, with fully appreciation of Lin’s work, I will analyze further the reasons why his works are not esteemed. Five parts will be included in this article:The first part discusses the reason why Lin began his journal of literature from his education experience (at home and at school). And analyze the reason why he chose short stories after an exploration of many other styles.The second part focused more on his writing attitude, i.e., his attitude towards the objects he was describing. The analysis will focus on his writing position and how it is formed.The third part discusses the diversity of his writing art. We will see the colorfulness of his novel world from three aspects:his novel as proses, as dramas, and as drawings.The fourth part will focus on the analysis of the important role Lin Jinlan’s novels have played in the developmental history of fictions.The fifth part will analyze the reasons why Lin’s novel lacks audiences from the aspect of readers, critics, the author and finally, our era. |
