Abstract/Summary:
Yanlianke is a Chinese contemporary writer who has very much vigorous creativiy, much abundant imagination and big attention and controversy. He won several important Prize for literature, including lu xun literature prize,ao she literature prize, then awarded Kafka prize in 2014, becoming the first Chinese writer who won the prize. His works have been translated into Japanese, Korean, French, British and other more than a dozen languages, so he be extremely welcomed by foreign literary. Yanlianke is an "outlier" in today’s literary world, because his literature writing always challenge the limit and extreme narrative shake sensory nerve of readers, causing an carnival of readers and the media. Yanlianke is also a leader of Vernacular novel in the new century. Be same to other native writers, he pursues the spiritual homeland all the way. The rural world is his naturally the spiritual resources and writing background, but he does not choose to detailed describe native figures or to depict folk customs. He focuses on the writing about vernacular story which is wrapped by the people’s growing suffering and hardship resistance.Suffering and struggle is the two themes of his novels, having been throughout the course of the narrative, and become the lifeblood and support of his novels. Death is a kind of desperate resistance, and is also a kind of extreme suffering. Death is another theme of his novels. As the body of the rural world, native figures are always the key point of writing description. For the writing of Yanlianke, characters are most imperfect, or physical defects, or mental unhealth, becoming a variety of symbols. Disease and death can be seen everywhere in his novels. Not only the body or the mind of the leading role is not healthy, but also other characters are often deep in the pain of disease or death. Yanlianke is in pursuit of unusual plot, but at the same time his detail is believable. The conspicuous description is very real and absurd. The beginning of stories is always sad, the process is difficulty, and the end is failure, which not only be consistent with the theme misery and struggle of the novel, and indicate the inevitable failure of the fight, but also serve for creating the tragic character. Through Setting extreme themes of suffering, struggle and death, improper symbol characters, the plot narrative of bizarre twists and real emotion, and undead perspective, Yanlianke completes his extreme narrative.Yanlianke grows up in the countryside and so his words reveal deep affection for the village. But why he does reiterat his writing purpose is to escape from the village? Because material poverty and spiritual barren in the village have been like a chain, restraining his body and his soul in the land, tormenting his body, also consuming his soul. But when he really goes out of the country, Yanlianke helplessly declares that no home can return. City has always been his temporarily home, and his desire is to recover his spiritual homeland. Going home however is the action of the body, and the soul is really reback? His rural utopia in the novel is happy, but not true, so he choose to run away again, looking for the "poetry city" of his mind. "Run away-return-run away" is the writing logic and emotion clues of vernacular novels, and also is spiritual dimension and writing coordinate of his think and creation. Yanlianke is a leader in new vernacular novels of new period.Naturally I carefully read his novels, monograph "found a novel", as well asreview articles in HowNet, and refer to the predecessors’ research achievements, then begin to think and write. The first chapter is divided into two parts:the introduction mainly combs research overview of Yanlianke’s novels and the purpose and significance of this research about the thesis. The second chapter:the setup of extreme narrative. This chapter is divided into four parts:extreme theme, extreme characters, extreme plot and extreme perspective. Extreme theme consist of three themes mainly of suffering, struggle and death. In here, death is a kind of extreme suffering, also is a kind of ultimate resistance. The polarizing figures mainly includes the characters of disease, and symbol depicting. Extreme plot in Yanlianke’s novels are characterized by beginning tragic, process difficult, ending failure. Extreme perspective means that Yanlianke often depicts with undead perspective. The third chapter:the pursuit of diverse style. This chapter is divided intothree parts:postures exploration, language innovation and narrative style. His innovative postures mainly includes SuoYuan body, XuYan body, Fable body. His explored language reflect mainly that absorb the folk resources for reference, use of a variety of language rhetorics and irony parody the language of Cultural Revolution. His narrative style mainly summarized as the painful content, the slow structure and folk language. The fourth chapter:trekking and leaping breakthrough. Yanlianke always insists on Writing his native land, which is his outstanding contribution to contemporary vernacular novel. The writing of native land has experienced a process from trekking to leaping breakthrough. Since Yanlianke starts to write, he has been in the fields of Realism industriously. Naturally, since his technical approach changes from "the living", his style consciously leap from Realism to Surrealism or God of realism. He creation injects new blood into the vernacular literature, also increases new vigor for Realistic creation. At the same time, this chapter also points out the problems existing in his vernacular novels:technical approach and creative idea lag behind novelistic theory, causing the gap and distance between novelistic theory and creative practice. These also become deficiencies and limitations collectively existing in many contemporary writers.
