The Linzi city has a huge scale in the Pre-Qin period, and also plays an important role on the evolution of the ancient capital pattern. Studying from the angle of historical geography can prove it’s value in the great site protection. This essay focus on the Linzi city’s geographical structure and is divided into six chapters.The first chapter explores the historical and geographical background of the growth of Linzi city. The geographical superiority can be proved from different spatial scales. The city’s planning idea is consistent with 《Guan zi》. It’s about nine hundred years since linzi be chosen as capital to the perish of Qi state.The second chapter mainly discusses Linzi city’s expanding process in different periods. This aspect also be divided into two analyzing angles, including the inner city and suburbs. Besides, the ancient capital’s spatial structure theory can be testified by way of the study of Linzi city.The third chapter discusses the Linzi city’s internal constituent elements and spatial structure. By investigating the location of palace and tomb, which can reflect the ritual and social background at that time. The market and ironmaking sites’ location have relationship with Qi state’s institution and also in accordance with the economic principles.The fourth chapter discusses the Linzi city’s suburbs’constituent elements and spacial structure. The ritual space mainly locate in the southern part, which including mountain Niu, Tian qi spring. By way of the angles of politics and traffic, the palaces’ location in suburb can be illustrated. The agricultural area in the southern part and the handicraft industry in the western part mainly play economic role.The fifth chapter discusses the location and inner spatial structure of the Jixia Palace. Besides, the location of the Jixia scholars’ dwelling place can be speculated as well. These two aspects should also be considered for the analysis of the founctional space of Jixia Palace.The sixth chapter is the conclusion part, which mainly discusses the spatial structure of the Linzi city, especially it’s value on the history oh ancient capital structure. The linzi city’s historical and cultural value should also be awared at present.The academic circles’research mainly focus on the cultural significance of the Linzi city, which not pay enough attention to the spatial angles. The overall study of the Linzi city may have weakness on the single element’s specific research. So it is meaningful to illustrate the Linzi city’s spatial evolution and it’s inner elements from the angle of historical geography. This essay divided the Linzi city into two parts, including inner parts and suburbs. For each parts, the spatial changes and inner elements are all be investigated. Besides, the character of Linzi city itself and it’s value on the revolution of the layout of ancient capitals are also be considered.
