British mandate in Jerusalem played a dominant role in the history of Jerusalem and the policy was re-adjusted in accordance with the change of British national strength and need. The mandate can be divided into three periods:the military controlled government period from1917to1922, the period of supporting the Jews and suppressing the Arabs from1922to1933and the period from1933to1948when Britain was trying to strike a balance. A research into the history of British mandate in Jerusalem is very important to understand the Jerusalem issues and the British colonial rule in the Middle East.The dissertation focuses on the different policies by Britain and their ramifications and highlights the relationship between the two nations. The dissertation has three chapters:the first one discusses the history of the city of Jerusalem including the concept and the establishment of British mandate; the second chapter deals with the policies and the reason why they were adopted; the third one introduces the influences of the mandate on the conflict between Arabic and Jewish, the geographic change and modernization of the city and the issue of Jerusalem.
