He was entitled an Italian sculptor, painter and architect. In Michelangelo, we’ve got a rare example:this great artist was able and hoped to record his art experience. These texts made the best annotations for his paintings and sculptures and also provided a bridge for us to approach his art.Based on an overview of Michelangelo’s main creative periods, this paper analyzes the grand events in the Renaissance created by his economic, cultural and social background. A new social structure in Florence gave artists a loose creative environment and equal social status. Michelangelo belonged to the High Renaissance, but he lived in the early stage of Contra-Reformation. His religious ideas got closer and closer to God after several changes over time and allowed him to have the ability to fuse Christian theology and paganism perfectly. The renewed Greek and Roman thoughts brought unprecedented impact to the Renaissance artists. Among them, Neoplatonism was the one that guided Michelangelo’s creation and ideas. Since being edified in the early Plato academy, he adhered to Neoplatonism all his life. He believed in eternal beauty and the love of God. He worshiped human body and imitated ideas, until he carved out his way for Mannerism in his late creation. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Michelangelo, Neo-Platonism, Humanism, Idea | | Related items |
