The Writing Of Modernity

Published works since the beginning of the 90’s of the last century, the writer Bi Feiyu has created works more than 20 years, bringing a wide of popular fiction for readers. From the early pioneer of historical narrative turned to realism theme of writing, he continually seeks the new breakthrough and innovation, and has always insisted deeply analyzing human nature and writing about the pain of real existence. He has always demonstrated his own unique artistic charm. As a writer with strong sense of social responsibility and sharp insight, Bi Feiyu has a unique understanding and reflection about the changes of politics, economy and culture in the process of Chinese modernization and the issue of life and human nature in real life. Meanwhile his literary creations are also reflected in concerns about certain issues in the process of Chinese modernization. The paper discusses the malaise of modernity in Bi Feiyu’s literary creation with the point of researching modernity.The paper is divided into introduction, body, and conclusion three chapters to narrate the modernistic malaise in Bi Feiyu’s literary creation. The introduction not only gives a brief definition of modernity and modernistic malaise, but also summarizes the malaise of modernity in Bi Feiyu’s literary creation. The body of the text is separated into three sections: the first part relates and analyzes the motivation inquiry of modernistic malaise in Bi Feiyu’s novels from his family story and his life experience, the growth background of “the Cultural Revolution”, spiritual resources and writer’s personality three sections; the second part is mainly related to analyzes the modernistic malaise that correlated to the dissimilation of humanity which is caused by totalitarian culture in Bi Feiyu’s novels about “the Cultural Revolution”, and it shows sympathy and compassion for life tragedy and depraved humanity by exposing and critiquing the dissimilation of the human body and depraved humanity by exposing and critiquing the dissimilation of the human body and spirit caused by authority; the third part analyzes the modernistic malaise that related to the dissimilation of humanity which is caused by desire in Bi Feiyu’s novels about present life, in which criticizes and reflects depraved humanity caused by the value of pursuit money, the abandonment of body lust and evolvement of family ethics and morals in modernization process. The conclusion part gives a summary, as well as presents the overview of modernistic malaise in Bi Feiyu’s novels, and further clear the great value and significance of exploring the malaise of modernity in Bi Feiyu’s literary creation.
