Alai's novel Empty Mountain describes the internal divisions and external shocks experienced by Tibetan villages in the process of modernization.For the purpose of discussion of the cycle and destination of civilization,Empty Mountain also presents the tradition and fission culture of rural ethics under modern national regulation.Exploring the author's review of human nature from the perspective of role modeling,the basis of this present dissertation is detailed combing through the plot of Empty Mountain.Exploring the author's pursuit of poetry and spirit,the present dissertation also integrates story background to discuss historical processes and cultural changes,which helps to understand the complex emotions and meanings that the author wants to express through the novel.The study is carried out in terms of the changes in human nature in development and the nature of human loneliness,of the environmental ecology that has been sacrificed under power politics and economic construction,and of the rural suffered culture that is merged in the process of modernity.As a Tibetan minority writer,Alai's novels express the reflection and the care for the development of human culture.Chapter one,Lonely Existence in Fission Time and Space,discusses the generation of hatred and the loneliness of human nature.At that time,the society was in turmoil and unrest.As strong political discourse swept through,the gap between people was magnified by the impetuous era.In the name of the collective,people blindly formed alliances with each other and imposed malicious suspicions to the solitary individuals,but they also exposed the inner fear.Weak individuals were unable to resist the attacks of the group.Young adults with bright prospects couldn't understand the mysteries of the time either.Political grand discourse broke in this closed area,but it didn't immediately dispel the fog of people's spirit.The essence of life is hard and lonely,but from time to time,the light of tolerance and love will shine in people's lives.Chapter two.The Lost Hometown under the Political and Econolmic Construction,discusses the transformation and return of people's ideas in the process of destruction of natural ecology.Tear of the Millennium Pact,Unextinguished Fire and Illegal Deforestation represent several event nodes in which people's original lives were reversed by economic politics.Step by step,passively or actively,people expanded the plundering of natural resources,and unknowingly sacrificed home and moral bottom line.In the process of modernity,people's attitudes to spirit and reality began to alter.They were tempted by money and dominated by politics at the same time,and also got stronger subjectivity after entering a broader cultural space.In the novel,the desire to call back the Golden Wild Duck described the active return to the spiritual hometown in this process.Chapter three,Realistic Concern about the Gap btween Civilizations,discusses the miscellaneous forms of cultural presentation under the collision of tradition and modernity,and analyzes the author's complex emotions about the historical process.The Beauty and Emptiness of Chinese Language argues dialectically that in dealing with the complicated reality,pure poetry lacked the ability to change it,although vivid and vital enough.The Cycle of Modernity Paradox discusses the weary and anxiety in Tibetan areas under the influence of technology,economy and politics.The Clash and Inclusive Culture analyzes the intricate system of culture as a whole with diversity and compatibility under the historical accumulation The author objectively examines the possibility of progress in culture and pays attention to the true nature of individual life.
