On Wordsworth 's Thought Of Childlike Innocence

Lake poet William Wordsworth had left not only the well-known poetry about nature, but also a large number of poetries which eulogized the child and revealed the relation between the child and the adult. Form his poetry, we could find the particular viewpoint and affection about children and childhood. The idea about children is one of the important parts of Romanticism. It had deep influence on his poetry and his philosophy of life. The idea about children is defined as childlike heart ideology in this dessertation. This dessertation has made a deep interpretation of childlike heart ideology from Wordsworth’s poetic creation and the philosophy of life.There are three parts in this dissertation. The first part is mainly about the meaning of childlike innocence ideology. The second part discusses the function of childlike innocence. It mainly has an influence on his poetry and the philosophy of life. The third part analyzes the reason of forming childlike heart ideology and its social influence. The first part defines the childlike heart ideology and discusses what is childlike heart and why it is holy and pure. The second part is the main part of this dessertation. To poetic creation, this part discusses childlike heart’ s function to imagination, which was emphasized by Wordsworth. It discusses from the perspective of the development of western poetry and the theory of literature and art. And it also analyzes the poetic presentation of the function from the aspect of stylistics. To the philosophy of life, this part discusses the relationship between the childlike heart and the conception of nature. The purpose of returning to the nature is to get a childlike heart. After it, the childlike heart will save the poet’s soul by countercurrent consciousness which is like rumination. The childlike heart makes poet get happy from static meditation and get the feeling of dignity from the pathos. The last part analyzes the reason of forming childlike heart ideology by analyzing Wordsworth’s childhood experiences and the influence of the society and the cultural thoughts. All in all, this dessertation strives to make a holistic theoretical study and systematic analysis about Wordsworth’s childlike heart ideology.
