A Study On The Vocabulary Of Luoyang 's New Epitaph Of The Seven Dynasties

There are a lot of the Tang Dynasty epitaphs which are rich in content, and most of them are reliable. They can accurately reflect the usage of characters and vocabulary at that time,so, epitaphs study for characters and anvocabulary are very valuable. In view of the limited time and energy, we focus on the "Luoyang Epitaph", which is newly acquired in the Seven Dynasties, period from Kaiyuan to Tianbao, whose author is Qi Yuntong.The Materials are new and in high quality, the word usage of which can accurately reflect what were the basic features like in the Mighty Tang Empire. The collation and research of variants will reveal relationship between the variant characters, and also will promote the development and evolution of understanding the variant for pelople gradually. As we often encounter difficult words when sorting out the variants, it’s necessary for us to verify those difficult words to obtain an authentic text. The official script has recorded the great development during glorious age of the Tang Dynasty, however, there is little fundamental researches that concern the Tang Li in philology view. There are a lot of epitaphs written in official script in our study materials, therefore, we do the research on these characters, hoping that scholars can pay more attention to the research on Tang Li. The epitaphs usually recorded the burial grounds and death place, known as villages, which lacks of detail recordings. Today, epitaphs of the Tang Dynasty, which provide historical data for us, make the research on the gathered village words, incluing tracing its naming rule and analyzing its structure, more convenient.The article can be divided into four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction, which includes the topics of significance, status of research materials and the concrete steps or methods used in the study.The second chapter is about the analysis of characters. This chapter is divided into three parts furtherly. The first part includes three aspects, the definition of variant characters,the cause of variant forms and the significance of variants studied. At this point, We’ve rounded up a large number of variant forms of words. The second part is the analysis of the difficult characters and the summary of methods in studying difficult words. The 3th part is the research on the Tang Li, including analysis of the Tang Dynasty variant type, the way for the same word appearing in different forms on the same epitaph, and the structure and form of the Tang Li.The third chapter is the investigation of the village words.Firstly, We do textual research on the village words one by one, and then analyze the naming rules and the structure of words.The fourth chapter is the collation. We proofread and analyze the errors and lacks as well as the punctuations in the texts which have annotations.
