2015 Newly Discovered Epitaph of Luoyang(hereinafter referred to as 2015 Newly Discovered)was compiled by Qi Yuntong and Yang Jianfeng,which is a collection of epitaph materials published by China Publishing House in February 2017.This book collects 398 inscriptions from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty,most of which unearthed in Luoyang and its surrounding areas and a few of which unearthed in Xi’an,Jinan,Chengdu and other places.And some of which have been collected and stored in the Nine Dynasties Stone Inscription Museum of Luoyang.The book is based on the last burial time of the master in order,publishes the rubbings from tablet inscriptions,and briefly introduces the size of the stone,the style of the inscription,the burial time of the master and the list of the compilers,writers and engravers.The book has substantial content and provides new materials for the relevant studies of literature and history.2015 Newly Discovered has collected 143 epitaphs from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty,most of which are newly publicized and have great study value in history,calligraphy,language and so on.At present,the interpretation and arrangement of these materials are still in a fragmented state and the linguistic study is not sufficient.Therefore,this paper takes it as the research object,supplements and annotates 64 epitaphs with annotations,and interprets the rest 79 epitaphs without annotations,and appends notes.The study of characters is carried out on this basis.The paper is divided into five parts: introduction,annotation of epitaphs from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty,the textual research of damaged or cleaved characters,the textual research of the folk characters,and the analysis of homographs.The first chapter is the introduction.This paper mainly discusses the basis,material characteristics,research status,research value,research thoughts and methods and so on.The second chapter is the annotation of epitaphs from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty.In accordance with the order of the original,it collates the existing annotations and corrects the mistakes;interprets the epitaphs without annotations;and does textual research to the difficult words and phrases,relevant historic figures and events,errors and omissions in the original inscriptions,and appends notes to fully excavate the value of the words,phrases and historical records.The third chapter is about the textual research of the damaged or cleaved characters.62 incomplete epitaphs that is difficult to identify are selected and classified into ten categories to summarize methods of textual research.The fourth chapter is the textual research of the folk characters.In order to provide empirical materials for the study of the development history of Chinese characters,26 folk characters of the epitaph materials involved with special deformation and strange shapes were selected,and their changes and development were comprehensively investigated to reveal the origin and inheritance of the characters.The fifth chapter is the analysis of homographs.15 groups of large-scale dictionaries have not been collected or analyzed,but there are some homographs that can not be accurately identified in the interpretation.We have clarified the relationship between characters,restored the original appearance of the corresponding words,and present the characteristics and laws of the generation and development of Chinese homographs from one aspect to provide reference for the scientific collation of the stone inscriptions and lexicography.
