Translation Of Tourism Literature In English - Chinese Translation - DowntheYangtze 's Translation Report

Down the Yangtze is a tourist literature written by Paul Theroux, which gives a vividdescription of the features of different stretches of the Yangtze and the precturesque sceneriesas well as the local conditions and customs along the Yangtze in the1970s and1980s.Explicitation, a common translation phenomenon which refers to ‘in order to overcomethe cross-cultural differences and focus more on the target-language reader’s reading habit,the translator tends to make the information which is implicit and obscure in source languagemore specific and clear in target language.’ In this report, based on the features of touristliterature itself, the linguistic features of source language in vocabularies and syntax, thefactors affecting the degree of explicitation in the target language and taking explicitation astranslation strategy, the translator tries to explore the ways to realize explication in Chinesetranslation of the book Down the Yangtze.
