The research into Can-wish verbs has been done enormously in Chinese languagestudies to date. Different opinions, however, still exist in terms of the identification ofCan-wish verbs’ part of speech, members, classification, etc., which make this sort ofwords a weak part in TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) and createmore difficulties for foreign learners of Chinese language.Based on the research of grammar teaching in TCFL, this thesis aims atinterlanguage phenomenon and selects authentic data from Beijing Language andCulture University’s Dynamic Corpus of HSK Writing, applying methods of erroranalysis and comparative analysis, to integrate theory with practice. It is desired tofind out the roots of these errors and put forward some practical teaching strategiesfor reducing the errors, so as to help improve the learning efficiency of nativespeakers of English when they learn Can-wish verbs. And hopefully, Chineselanguage research as well as TCFL research can be promoted in this way.This thesis is divided into five parts:Chapter one is an introduction in which the research purpose and significance ofthis thesis are stated. Then a literature review of the research into Chinese Can-wishverbs has been conducted. The phrase “Can-wish verbs” and other key notions in thispaper are defined to clarify the research coverage. The last section of this chapter isabout the paper’s research methods and theoretical principles.The second chapter gives a detailed account of the collection and error statisticsand sorting-out of the data.Chapter three, based on the comparative study of Chinese Can-wish verbs andEnglish modal verbs, probes into the reasons of Can-wish verb errors found DynamicCorpus of HSK Writing.Chapter four focuses on learning strategy, learning environment and so on. Aslast, some measures are suggested to be practiced in TCFL.Chapter five is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
