A Study On The Aesthetics Of Natural Disasters

All things are beautiful. Aesthetic is generated in the value activities between thesubject and the object. Taking Wenchuan Earthquake as the example, this thesis doesan aesthetic study of literary and artistic works with the theme of natural disaster. Itmainly studies the different forms of literary and artistic works, which are based onthe background and theme of Wenchuan Earthquake, including painting, sculpture,music, poetry, photography, film and television, additionally with the study on othernatural disaster works, to explore the possibility and necessity of the aesthetic study,as well as its academic prospects, further more to analyze the aesthetic connotation oftypical artistic works, and study the related aesthetic value types such as life,humanity, pathos and sublime, ultimately to gain the revelation ofthe realistic society and individual life from the aesthetic.The thesis is divided into five parts:Chapter one, to discuss the possibility of aesthetic study on literary and artisticworks about natural disaster. Aesthetic is everywhere. The beauty of life, humanity,sublime and sadness, which is closely related with literary and artistic works aboutnatural disaster, can arouse the recipients’ spiritual resonance. Human beings do notonly face up to natural disasters, but also reproduce disasters through arts, and createsome classic artistic works. So it is possible to do aesthetic study on literary andartistic works about natural disasters.Chapter two, current status of aesthetic study on literary and artistic works aboutnatural disaster. Both from the angle of emotion and rationality, aesthetic studies onliterary and artistic works about natural disaster are necessary. The former worthieshave doneactive research on the theory of literary and aesthetic, and reached someacademic achievements, but based on classic literary works, the connotation, valueand system about natural disaster aesthetic still needs to be further improved.Chapter three, analysis of literary and artistic works about Wenchuan Earthquakeand its aesthetic study. Setting under the realistic background and with the themes ofWenchuan Earthquake, this thesis chooses the typical sculpture, painting, music,poetry, photography, movie and other literary and artistic works to analyze the aesthetic, while taking into account the time art, space art and time-space art, torealize the research on aesthetic value and humanistic implication of artistic worksabout natural disaster.Chapter four, to explore the aesthetic value of literary and artistic works aboutnatural disaster. Through the aesthetic analysis of typical literary and artistic works, itis shown that literary and artistic works about natural disaster directly involve pathosand sublime, the two aesthetic value types. Its connotation is mainly expressed as thepursuit of the beauty of life and human nature. They objectively highlight the humandedication, optimism feeling, and the care of humanism and humanitarian.Chapter five, the inspiration of aesthetic study on literary and artistic worksabout natural disaster. The achievements of aesthetic study on artistic works aboutnatural disasters are not only performed as our cognition and perception of the artfeatures, aesthetic categories and the psychological process, but also lie in theenlightenment and significance the disaster aesthetic brings to the real society andindividual life, finally to solve the two fundamental problems of “Where to go" and"What should be" about the human.
