Du wenxiu’s uprising is a very significant historic event in Yunnan in the lateQing dynasty, and behind the uprising which has a profound social cause. Fromhistorical perspectives, the problems governments of Qing dynasty faced in domesticand abroad, such as national recession, sharp social problems. The country had fromprosperity to decline. From the point of ethnic background, in Ming dynasty greatdeal of the han ationality crowed in Yunnan and changed the inherent nationalstructure, and the conflicts between different ethic people had happened. In thiscircumstance, the history and culture of hui ethnic had decided the way which gottogether whit han ethnic. Firstly, in Yunnan in the late Qing dynasty there was fiercecontradiction between population and cultivated land, the food crisis became moreand more serious, people faced high tax, and however the government never caredpeople’s life. Therefore people always resisted to pay the rent and food. Secondly,declined of mining lead to the contradiction, which how to distribute profit in miningindustry, between hui and han people. Thirdly, Qing government faced politicalcorruption and social security tended to collapse. Qing government’s inequalitypolicy and the pressure from local government leaded to the hui people armedresistance to Qing government. The last but not least, because Du wenxiu appreciateddifferences in national viewpoint and processed leadership, that made uprising couldhappe.
