Although there was controversy about Chinese Rhetorical Devicesl necessity inteaching Chinese as Foreign language, the value of Chinese Rhetorical Devicesl berecognized these years.The International Chinese Teaching Universal curriculumrequires that the students should grasp the simple, more complex and complexRhetorical Devices, and comprehend the much more complex Rhetorical Devices ofChinese.This thesis is based on three teaching materials of Boya Chinese advancededition, and makes analysis on the Rhetorical Devices appeared in the teachingChinese as a foreign language (TCFL) textbooks. It summarizes all kinds ofRhetorical Devices in textbooks, and elaborates on the frequent using of RhetoricalDevices. Many expressive sentences with Rhetorical Devices appeared in the material.But the textbooks don’t point out the linguistic phenomenon of varieties in RhetoricalDevices.The author analyses the Rhetorical Devices in the sample questions of HSKsyllabus, and the old test questions for level5and level6in recent3years arerandomly drawn separately. The Rhetorical Devices in these old test questions areextracted, there are many Rhetorical Devices are examined in the old test question andthe sample questions.Except rhetorical sentences from Boya Chinese,found in thebook there are a lot of Rhetorical Devices.On the basis of Synopsis of ChineseLanguage and Literature Teaching and Chinese Course Standards for Chinese students,the students in China are required to learn figures of speech in his/her primary school.The listening part of Synopsis of HSK requires the comprehension of importantRhetorical Devices. The subjective test items such as writing needs to be able to use alittle complex sentence patterns and some rhetorical figures. In terms of discourse,In addition, Chinese Rhetorical Devices have a close relationship with the Chineselanguage and Chinese culture. And then the author argues the cultural meaning andthe indispensability of Rhetorical Devices.The author concludes that while the Rhetorical Devices is important in theChinese language and Chinese culture,the Boya Chinese ignores the pose ofknowledge on Rhetorical Devices. It has a negative effect on improving students’Chinese language proficiency and understanding the Chinese culture. The author suggests that the TCFL and the teaching materials at higher levels can pay attention tothe Chinese Rhetorical Devices. The Rhetorical Devices appeared in TCFL textbookswhich are commonly used by overseas students can be explained to some extent.
