The first part of the thesis is the C-E translation of Prof. Dai Jinhua’s work-Scenery in the Fog:the Culture of Chinese Cinema1978-1998. It is an anthology collecting her theoretical critiques, which offered an overall picture about the culture of Chinese cinema. According to an editor of her work, the language of her is "difficult, sometimes tortured". Thus translator’s task is to make the English version "able, accurate, and meaningful".To further identify the "skopos", I have done translation-oriented text analysis, clarifying how to choose translation strategy. It could provide a basis of reasoning when the translator is hesitating on intertextual coherence and intratextual coherence. In the last part, several translation examples are offered, followed by the translator’s explanation concerning strategy and tactics.
