In Wei Jin Southern and Northern dynasties, the political struggle was fierce. Many people died of the war,the famine and the plague. The life of people seemed so short and fragile. Scholars might get trouble even though they did not participate in politics. In this context, the philosophy of Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu developed and got a new interpretation.A new philosophy, metaphysics, born while the Confucianism declined.Huangfu Mi,the research object of this paper, his thought was formed in this kind of social environment and was greatly effected by it. Some of his works were saying his will to seclusion, other works were writing ancient people’s choice of parting from politics. He participated metaphysics by rejecting the call of emperor and devoting himself to writing. But even so,he is a Confucian scholar in essence. He loved the Confucian theory of "self-cultivating; family-regulating;state-ordering;then the land great governed".But because of the troubled times and his sickly body,he could not do it.He thought that the relationship between teacher and his students were best for politics in which he could expound his ideal but would not get trouble. The emergence and flourish of a new form of literature,non-official biography,is the most noticeable phenomenon in this period. I define non-official biography as "biographical narrative works which are not in the official history and taking people as the object of creation." The development of economic and politics, the character appraisal, the style of non-official biography itself and the consciousness of oneself as an individual are four reasons for non-official biography’s flowering. I will analysis the character in Huangfu Mi’s non-official biography and then his view of female and history.
