The Album of Chinese traditional Portraits For The County Sages In Songjiang whichis being kept at Nanjing Museaum now, is a combination of original pieces from XuZhang,who was respected as a master of Chinese traditional portrait in Songjiangduring the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty, and the paintings made up bylater generations.Xu Zhang, the painter was famous for his excellent artistry of verisimilar drawing.And all of the painted figures in his album were picked out from the renowned ancientsages been living in Songjiang Prefeture area during Ming Dynasty,and they werepraised highly because of their loyalty or piety or honesty or integrity. The backgroundof them mirrors a historical factor that Songjiang Prefecture had been rising rapidly tothe hub of economic and cultural communication in Jiangnan area during MingDynasty.Since that,this album has become materials of great importance for futurity toresearch the culture germinating from Songjiang area in Ming Dynasty.And this essay takes The Painting Album of County Sages In Songjiang Are a,theworks of Xu Zhang the well-known portrait paiter in Qing Danysty,as a target forresearching to list clearly the detailed informations about the painter himself and theworking,the spreading and the different versions of the painting album, with help ofstone inscription pieces by Zuibai pool in Songjiang. And the goal of this essay is todemonstrate how the county sages made such huge influence on the county cultureduring Ming and Qing Dynasty,and what is further, to explains why the versimilardrawing painting and portrait of county sages rose in Ming and Qing Dynasty.
