Regarding the Founding of the "Shandong Autonomous A，rmy，as the research objectduring the peirod of the Beiyang Government, the paper, combining the regional research withholistic research and comprehensively applying relevant theories and methods, such as ethnology,psychology, history, society, economics and other disciplines, expounds the living conditions ofthe "Founding of the Shandong Autonomous Army" before the Lincheng Incident occurred.The article is composed of three chapters. In addition, it has the introduction and concludingremark. The first chapter mainly focuses on analysis of reasons for the rise of the Baodugubandits, the pred"ecessor of "Autonomous Army, About the reasons for the Baodugu bandits’rise, besides economical and political aspects, other important factors such as complicatedtopography，severe gender imbalance and some homeless laborers also contribute to the irse ofBaodugu bandits. In the second chapter, the author analyzes in detail the Baodugu bandits’characteristics, which are not only common in contrast to other gangs such as violentmetamorphosis, but also its own distinctive, such as a very stronger political participationconsciousness, and the typical characteristics of fixed gangs. The author in the third chapter dealswith the survival situations of "the Founding of the Shandong Autonomous Arm”y into whichBaodugu bandits were transformed, such as its construction projects, foreign relations，thesources of its weapons and the causes of its peirsh, and at last makes a superficial discussionabout the nature of ‘‘the Founding of the Shando"ng Autonomous Army. In the conclusion part,the author ifrst systematically summairzes the first three chapters, and then discusses a littleenlightenment on contemporary society.In short,"the Founding of Shandong Autonomous Army" is an interlaced and syntheticalproduct under semi colonial and semi feudal society. In the abnormal society in which politicshas declined, kinds of large or small “Autonomous Armies" inevitably spirng up endlessly.Those who wish to wipe out a variety of so一called "Autonomous Armies" must keep societyinstitutions fare and transparent.
