“Wei Jin Metaphysics” collected in the library of Ji Shou University was YongjiLiu’s lesson plan during the period of the Republic of China. These manuscripts copiedwith regular script had one volume which was scattered sheets, with no page numbersand punctuation.“Wei Jin Metaphysics” contained the extracted and identified errorsfrom the Taoist classical “Zhuang Zi” like “Peripateticism”,““the Equality ofThings,“De Chong Fu” and “In the world” and also from the the Confucianismclassical “Songs of Chu” such as Qu Yuan’s “Crossing the river”,“The morning”,“Shen si” and “Huai Sha”. Extracting and identifying the representative writings ofZhuang Zi and “Songs of Chu”, Yongji Liu had interpreted the mutual complementbetween Taoism and Confucianism, raised the idea of that “Wei Jin Metaphysics”actually based on the philosophical thought of Taoism, adhered to the interpretation ofclassical writings of Confucianism and expressed the culture form by tellingmetaphysics.The main content of this paper was as follows,Firstly, Yongji Liu’s idea that taoism was the philosophical basis of “Wei JinMetaphysics”. Extracting and identifying the representative writings of Zhuang Zi,Yongji Liu had interpreted three aesthetic ideas: natural and simple beauty, the beautyof no-desire and inaction and the beauty of goodness. He thought that Taoism was thephilosophical basis of “Wei Jin Metaphysics”, which mainly expressed on two sides:one was that he paid closely attention from personal sorrow to the society and anotherone was that he thought that goodness was the virtue. He thought that “Wei JinMetaphysics” interpreted Confucianism’s classic based on these two thoughts.Secondly, Yongji Liu’s idea that “Wei Jin Metaphysics” adhered toConfucianism’s classics. Extracting and identifying the Confucianism classical “Songsof Chu”, Yongji Liu interpreted three aesthetic ideas of “Chu Ci”: the beauty ofself-goodness, the beauty of well-read and kindheartedness and the beauty of self-pity.Lastly but not least, Yongji Liu expressed the idea of the mutual complementbetween Taoism and Confucianism. Extracting and identifying the Confucianismclassical “Songs of Chu” and the representative writings of Zhuang Zi, Yongji Liuexplained the thoughts of the mutual complement between Taoism and Confucianism.He thought that “Wei Jin Metaphysics” was the form of basing on the Taoism, adheringto Confucianism classics and the mutual complement between Taoism andConfucianism.Yongji Liu’s “Wei Jin Metaphysics” broke the boundary of the traditionalConfucianism’s Metaphysics. He proposed new aesthetic theory of the mutualcomplement between Taoism and Confucianism, which help us review the literatureduring the period of Wei and Jin through new perspective and thinking.
