Abstract/Summary:
<Mikawa Story>is a historical book written in the early period of Edo withcharacteristicof family motto in Japan.<Mikawa Story>consists of three volumes. Itmainly descibes the period of the Tokugawa family rising from the first lord tounifying the world and becoming power center of Japan by the ninth generation ofTokugawa Ieyasu.And the good quality, like dedication, diligence and loyalty, ofTokchon family retainer and samurai are fully depicted in this book.<MikawaStory>narrates every big event associated with Tokugawa during that150years.“TheRiver Story” is regarded as the home to the original Japanese samurai thought. It alsohas important academic value to modern Japanese thought, especially to the study ofmodern Japanese samurai thought.There are many arguments about when <Mikawa Story>was written in theacademic circle. Based on the study of senior scholars, this paper adpots the idea that<Mikawa Story>was written by generations of Tokugawa retainers, Sengoku warriorSaemon Okubo Yan Zhong teach. This kind of books written by people whoexperienced war themselves, like <Mikawa Story>, are not so many. Therefore, wecan say that this book is very valuable to the study on Japan’s Warring States, thehistory of the early Edo.<Mikawa Story>is mainly about the development of the Tokugawa family andthe series of wars, political events, power struggles until unification. However, the<Mikawa Story>is not aimed at the compliment to the lord’s wise and resolution inthe series of war, political events and power struggle, but to the attitude and behaviorof ancient Tokugawa family retainers and the main king warriors around the king.Therefore, in this paper, I want to state my understanding of Japanese samurai thoughtat that time by evaluating the attitude and behavior of these warriors in some bigevents.This paper is maily focused on the analysis of the word loyalty. In that way canthe author investigates the Japanese samurai thought.
