The novels of Jin Yong is the master of martial arts, it is the representative works of popular literature, which has an important position in the history of martial arts. The novel contains wealthy traditional Chinese history, culture connotation, it is not only in the storyline, but also in the character’s nickname in the novel. The characters’ nicknames of Jin Yong’s novels are the crowning touch to the novel. Nickname is not only a special title for the characters,but also a culture which is the symbol of cultural man in the underworld and the heritage of folk culture. There are deep social,life and spiritual mark for the nicknames, which mirrors our unique national psychology and aesthetic taste. The origin of nickname is early, which has a long history in ancient China. However, such a cultural phenomenon of nickname did not get people’s attention for a long time, there were few scholars do specialized research for nickname. This paper takes the characters’nicknames of Jin Yong’s novels as the study object, make exhaustive statistics and thematic studies for them.The thesis is divided into the following sections:Part Ⅰ:Introduction.The introduction mainly introduces the significance of this article, then the comprehensive current study situation on the nickname. Then exhaustively investigated nickname studies related to books, the body of nickname research, and the nicknames in literature. Try to make a comprehensive and detailed description for nickname’s current study situation. Then explains and defines the scope of the corpus, at last, the research methods will be explained.Part Ⅱ:the main part, it is divided into three chapters.The first chapter provides an overview of the nickname,introduce the definition, the origin and development of nickname briefly.The second chapter from the linguistic point of view, use "little triangle" theory, investigate the nicknames corpus of Jin Yong’s novels’"form-in-value" linguistic features in three areas.The first part analysis the language form. First in the language voice analysis, get the conclution of the syllable mainly in three or four, has beautiful beat, which is in conformity with Chinese level and oblique regular pattern, reflecting the nickname of oral and neat. Secondly, the lexical structure nickname analysis, get the "modifier/description language+general name, places proper name+number+general name, location words+general name (description language/vocational/name, etc.), last name/modifier+appellation" four modes. The second part study the language internal for the nickname, I start with the semantics of the characters in his novels, divide the nickname into" physical appearance,kind of hobbies, character and behavior, vocational identity, reputation " five categories, and then investigate the semantic color of nickname, analysis the emotional meaning, Refined color justice, righteousness color image, lenovo colors justice. Then in terms of grammatical structure analysis, there is none simple word, but compound words, and add on words, composite-based words are in formal. The analysis is in order to explore the internal structure of the law of the word. Section Ⅲ in terms of the value of research, we first summarize the rhetoric nickname by the use of metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole euphony. I summarize the nickname’s pragmatic functions:social indicating function, descriptive function, evaluation and rhetorical function. In the end, through the study of "form-in-value " linguistic features? concluded that the voice, word formation, grammatical structure, and other words of speech or language which nickname used to bring abundant language values.The third chapter from the cultural linguistic point of view, the author through the study found a large number of nicknames in certain words, which reflect the unique Chinese culture. Respectively, from directional nickname, animal nickname, martial arts weapons and spirits classes nickname to reflect the hierarchy concept, aesthetic and cultural connotations psychology, adoring heroes and advocating Kung Fu, religion and culture in his novels.
