Singer is the second American Jewish writer who won The Nobel Prize in Literature after Saul Bellow, and he is also one of the most important Jewish writers in contemporary America. His works is psychedelic, meaningful and observe the traditional narrative style, giving readers a visual and spiritual enjoyment. Singer was born in a world that bears the imprint of the Jewry in Eastern Europe; the world was glutted with wealth, poverty and ethnic customs. The Nobel Prize in Literature Presentation Speech described, the world has now been destroyed by the most terrible disaster that ravaged polish Jews and other ethnic groups. It has been eliminated into the dust. But it is live in Singer’s works, live in his waking dream, his unusual lucid dream; his works is full of great sympathy but not sad. Imagination and experience can change form. The power of Singer’s inspiration has affected the reality, the reality has been sublimated to the supernatural by dreams and imagination, in that realm, everything is possible, everything is not sure". Based on the upper words and Frye’s archetypal criticism theory, this paper will focus on the biblical archetype of Singer’s novels, and investigate the origin and significance of his works. This paper is divided into five chapters.First chapter is a whole summary of Singer’s biblical archetype writing in his novels, introducing Singer’s ideological roots and prototype theory, and this chapter aims to carry on the overall summary of this paper from three aspects, that is, the theme, character and narrative strategy.The second chapter discusses Singer’s biblical archetype writing in his novels from the aspect of theme. This chapter will explore the deep meaning of Singer’s novels from the theme of stray, redemption, and "crime and punishment".The third chapter discusses Singer’s biblical archetype writing in his novels from the aspect of characters. This chapter mainly discusses the images of followers, rebel, victims, and some female characters in Singer’s novels, finding out their prototype in the Bible, and expounds the meaning of the characters.The fourth chapter discusses Singer’s biblical archetype writing in his novels from the aspect of narrative strategies. This chapter mainly inquires two narrative strategies called "binary opposition" and repeat, and presents visions in his novels, which expounds how to reflect these narrative strategies and what practical significances visions are in his novels.The fifth chapter mainly discusses the significances of Singer’s biblical archetype writing. The biblical culture has great influences on Singer’s biblical archetype writing, that is a kind of specific interpretation of the Bible, also reflects the intertextuality between the Bible and other texts, at the same time, it also expresses Singer’s advice that Jewish should return to the Jewish traditional beliefs to achieve the final salvation.The last part is conclusion, which is mainly an induction and summary of this paper.All in all, this paper will explore the prototype of the relationship between the Bible and Singer’s novels from three aspects such as the theme, characters and narrative strategy, indicating the outlet of Jewish peoples. It is concluded that if you want to get the solution, just return to the Jewish tradition.
