An Analysis Of The Musical Features And Performance Of Beethoven 's Piano Sonata Op.101

Beethoven’s later five piano sonatas not only rich with boldness and innovation in the structure and content, but also embody his true subjective feelings, vision for ideal life and perception for real life in the works, it further indicates a romantic doctrine of music performance and composition techniques. Beethoven’s later five piano sonatas, according to some huge and homogeneous tendency, were combined together as a whole and known by the world as the later "five sonatas".Op.101was written during1815-1816and published in1817. In the period of1815-1819, due to the unfortunate deterioration of the political situation, social chaos, and personal life, It formed a period during which Beethoven produced the smallest amount of works, and only the piano sonatas Op.101was born. According to Schindler, who was Beethoven’s friend, this piece was the only one performed publicly of Beethoven’s piano sonatas when he was alive. This work developed the overall structure of the piano sonata, not only changed the traditional order of the music movement, but also used the counterpoint more frequently. On the other hand, this work’s fusion of portrayal of the poetic and philosophical thinking was also seen as a Fantasia, and reached an unprecedented artistic realm. It is the piano sonata Op.101that opened the era of Beethoven’s later period.This thesis is divided into three parts, we use historical status of Beethoven’s piano sonatas and three periods as the point cut, outline the basic content of Beethoven’s piano sonatas briefly, We further proceed to the detailed analysis of four aspects about the sonata structure, the use of the fugue, the thoughts of the work, diversity of romanticism and polyphonic melody lines respectively, finally, we make a detailed analysis about four parts of grasping the performance skills on this work. This article will combine the Beethoven’s musical style as well as philosophy research on music content and personal music playing experience to make more pianists understand the meaning of this piece of work and break through the difficulties associated with playing skills on this work.
