French film master Jean Renoir once said:" A director shoot just one movie inhis life., while Wong Kar-wai is such kind of director whose work are alwaysobsessed with the same motif.In1995, Wong Kar-wai said in an interview:" Afterfive movies, it was found to be in those plays nothing more than the action of refusing,fear of being refused, the reaction ito being denied, or even the action of selectingbetween memory or escapet " We do not know it is subconscious of the director ordeliberate expression.,but it cannot be denied that Wong Kar-wai’s film has a verydistinctive feature. That is why,his movies attract so many attention from researchers.Because the research involves tortuous development of Hong Kong’s urbanculture,this paper only have to abandon the famous costume films of Wong Kar-wai,"Ashes of Time" and the recent released movie "great master" While his early work"As Tears Go By," and "Fallen Angels"is not included as well for lack of obviousstyle type of the topic in this paper.Thus, the object of this paper is narrowed down tofive movies, which are"Days of Being Wild"shot in1990,"Chungking Express" shotin1994,"Happy Together"taken in1997,,"In the Mood for Love" taken in2000and"2046"shot in2004.The Study of Wong Kar-wai’s movie, must notice the uniquecultural background of the city of Hong Kong, under which Wong Kar-wai’s moviesalways explicitly or implicitly express a sense of adrifting and thus forming th ehtunique film motif symbol.Hong Kong culture-specific consumption symbols directlyaffect the use of a variety of shapes symbol in Wong Kar-wai movies. The culturetolerance brought by the development of Hong Kong’s unique history is fullyreflected through the use of multiple musical elements in his films. Thus, this studymainly foucus on three aspects.To sum up, this paper will use triple relationship symbolic theory of Pierce,putting under the background of Hong Kong’s unique urban culture, to focus on theanalysis of Wong Kar-Wai film text, resolve the way of using symbols in its moviemotif, modeling and music, and mining the role and value of the symbol in the filmtext, thus showing the unique artistic charm of Wong Kar-Wai film, helping to fully understand and grasp the artistic style of the the Wong Kar-wai film.
