The thesis consists of three parts, namely, the source text of Happiness Economics, theChinese version translated by the author and a report on the translation. The source text is atypical text of popular science; it is analyzed by the author in a very creative way ofeconomics. Besides, the translation of it is of significance to the translation practice andstudy of the translator. It’s a new try to study happiness from the perspective of economicsand this kind of research is rare in home. The translator hopes to bring some creativescientific research abroad in and the Chinese version is expected to be of help to thedomestic researchers in this field.The translation report introduces some basic information such as its characteristics, theauthor of the source text and the translator’s motivations to do this job, and briefly analyzesthe linguistic features of the source text. Then it focus on introducing the theory of“Functional Equivalence”and analyzing in detail how the translator applies the theory tothe translation by using principles of word equivalence, word equivalence and chapterequivalence. The translation process is then described.
