A Study On The Architectural History And Characteristics

Hue is the capital of the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam. At that time, it was not only a political center, but also a cultural center of Vietnam. It was recognized as the World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its extremely significant architectural value. The Imperial City of Hue has very high historical value and archaeological value, which symbolized for the ancient architecture of Vietnam. In this research paper, we will mainly focus on the architecture and the history of the Imperial city of Vietnam.The introduction of Vietnam history will be presented in Chapter I. The historical context will be introduced briefly in order to analyze the characteristics, the socio-political and the economy of Nguyen Dynasties.Chapter II will answer the reason why Hue is chosen to be the capital of country at that time. Nguyen Dynasty had built Hue become a political economy center of Vietnam during nearly400years. Hue was chosen to be country’s capital based on its natural conditions and historical conditions.Chapter III will give the introduction about the building process of Imperial Palace and some representative architecture. The Imperial Palace was mainly built in the time of the first Emperor of Nguyen Dynasty, Gia Long and the second Emperor of Nguyen Dynasty, Minh Mang. The architectural works include the temples, the palaces and the walls of citadel.Chapter IV will focus on exploiting the influences of Chinese culture and Western culture on the Imperial Palace. Vietnamese culture bad been influenced by Chinese culture and Western culture. Therefore, the architectural style of the Imperial Palace had unavoidable influences of these two cultures. The Imperial palace will be presented in the way of analyzing of the Chinese culture influences and Western culture influences.
