Caozhi, the poet of Jian-an, had a complicated and changeful life, which resulted ina significant change in his literary creation. Comparing with the works in his earlierstage,Caozhi created more Yue-fu poems later. What’s more, these Yue-fu poems are ofhigh value among all his brilliant works. However, although there are some academicresearches of Caozhi’s poetries, they do not pay enough attention to the value of hisYue-fu poems, neither go deep into the works. Motivated by the facts, this thesis is amonograph on the Yue-fu poem of Caozhi. The research Angle will be on variable aboutCaozhi’s literary creation. It is obvious, taking other writers and their works intoaccount, that Caozhi changed to create Yue-fu poem in the later years of his life.According to this phenomenon, I am eager to analyse the connection between Caozhi’screations and how Yue-fu poems were transferred from folks to scholars. So this paperappreciates the value of Caozhi’s Yue-fu poems while giving an objective view to hisposition in the Chinese poetry history. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is an exordium, in which effortsare emphasized on the review of research results and the interpretation of the worth ofthe paper. The second part, there are some driving forces behind these characteristics ofCaozhi’s extant Yue-fu poems, and the reasons why more Yue-fu poems were producedlater in his life, both objectively and subjectively. On the basis of the second part, in thethird, I comb the development of former Literati Yuefu, from the pre-Qin period to theCao-wei period, and analyze the other writers’ devotion to The Yuefu folk songs. Thelast part of this paper discusses Caozhi’s great contribution in reforming the Yue-fupoems, efforts emphasized on the change of form, content and the artistic expression, which marks the transition from Yue-fu folk poem to scholastic style.
