Recently, the incidence of infertility is increasing year by year. Infertility has become the third largest disease after cancer and cardiovascular disease in the world. Ovulation inhibition, caused by the ovarian dysfunction, is a vital cause of the infertility disease. Our previous study showed that the extract of sea cucumber ovum has the ability to improve the function of ovarian. Therefore, in order to find the active compound, the chemical composition of sea cucumber ovum had been systematically studied in this reaserch. There were 21 compounds being isolated from the extract of sea cucumber ovum. The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of extensive NMR spectroscopy(1H and 13 C NMR, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY), EI-MS and ESI-MS, including five triterpene glycosides: 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-xylopyranosyl]-holo sta-7,25-diene-16-one-3β,12β-biol(1); 3-O-{β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl}-holosta-7,25-diene-16-one-3β,12β-biol(2); 3-O-{β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl}-holosta-7,25-diene-16-one-3β,12β-biol(3); 3-O-{3-O-methyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-quinovop yranosyl-(1â†'2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl}-hol-osta-7,25-diene-16β-acetoxy-3β-biol(4); 3-O-{3-O-methyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-quinovop yranosyl-(1â†'2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)]-β-D-xylopyra nosyl}-holosta-9,25-diene-16-one-3β-biol(5); along with glycerol(6), phenylalanine(7), adenine(8), cyclo-(Leu-Leu)(9), three glyceryl ethers(10~12) and nine monoglycerides. Compounds 1~4 new compounds and the rest were isolated from the sea cucumber ovum for the first time. This paper researched on the material base of the ability of sea cucumber ovum to improve the function of ovarian, making up for gaps of the study about chemical composition of sea cucumber ovum. This paper also provided the theoretical support for the development and utilization of sea cucumber ovum and a research approach to find the active compounds which can improve ovarian function from natural products.
