Purpose: To summarize the academic experience and thoughts of Professor Zhang Zhe in the treatment of vertigo starting from Lesser Yang(LY). To construct theory framework of LY on vertigo from the three dimensions of the molded hull, character, and application of LY. At the same time, to offer a new direction on exploring the essence of LY.Material and method: Based on the extensive literature review and clinical practice, to elaborate the origin of the theory about treating vertigo from LY, further to induce relationship between LY and vertigo, and to summarize syndrome differentiation characteristics of vertigo of Professor Zhang Zhe.Results: LY’s molded hull includes meridian of Hand-SHAO YANG, Foot-SHAO YANG, three cavities and chole internal organs, which is connected to the brain for transport nutrition. The LY character is full of little youthful spirit to warm the primordial spirit. LY is the pivot for the balance of Yin and Yang. So that something is wrong with LY could lead to vertigo. The pathological features of the vertigo is the following: that the clinical manifestation of meridian or Zang and Fu of LY is the same point, inclined to stagnated QI transforming into fire, inclined to form phlegm and retained fluid, and prone to intervene other meridians. Professor Zhang Zhe likes to use Bupleurum prescription, Decoction for sedating the liver to calm wind, two-cured herb Decoction, alisma Decoction, linggui zhugan Decoction, five-herb Powder with poria, clearing gallbladder-heat Decoction, mind-calming Pill and so on. The overall treatment and conditioning is for harmony of Yin and Yang, which the vertigo would disappear.Conclusion: To summarize the academic experience and thought of Professor Zhang Zhe in the treatment of vertigo starting from LY, which can provide guidance for the treatment of this disease and enrich the connotation of TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment.
