The paper introduces the conception of virtual lab, and expatiates on the significance of virtual lab conformation, then describes various technologies in the course of virtual lab implementation, implements an example of virtual drilling lab based on Internet. Virtual lab is the especial environment for question resolving, it makes users do really experiments in the virtual lab. Virtual lab can provide students lively and vivid studying environment, students can become one participant of the virtual environment, and play a role in the virtual environment. This will operate actively in enhancing the interest and increase of the students and breaking through the focal point and difficult point of teaching, also in training the technical ability of the students. The characteristic of visibility and sharing experimental equipment of virtual lab makes it can easily promulgate and apply in the network. The paper expatiates on the conception, character, developing direction of the virtual lab and the meaning of setting up the virtual lab, analyses the applying model of the virtual lab based on Internet, that includes the system structure, system composing and function characteristic, mostly researches the pivotal technology of constructing the virtual lab, such as, 3D modeling and the realization technology of vivid and real-time 3D model. In the 3D modeling technology part, it introduces the technology of constructing 3D models, including Geometric Modeling, Kinematic Modeling, Physical Modeling and Object Behavior Modeling. In the realization technology of vivid and real-time 3D model part, it introduces the technologies of Model Segmentation, visible eliminating veils technology in scene optimized, texture mapping technology, and LOD technology. In the control system of virtual lab, human-computer interaction, virtual scenes rambling technology, virtual entity manipulated technology, collision detection technology and collision response technology are discussed, bounding sphere method and bounding box method are included in collision detection technology. The following part discusses the method of scene optimized, the integration of virtual lab and the promulgating technology based on Internet. At the end part of the paper, the design and implementation of virtual drilling lab are introduced in detail. The researching of the virtual lab and applying in teaching is the developing direction of modern education in developing and innovating, it has high value in carrying on deep research of the virtual lab.
