The heart disease has been one of the most fatal diseases to endanger the health and result in death. For long time, the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prevention mainly depend on body surface electrocardiogram, but because mankind lack to the complete comprehension of the relation between body surface potential information and heart working state. The electrocardiogram had been suffering the very big restrict in clinical diagnosis of heart disease. It is one of the methods to investigate them that animal or human bodies experiment. But this kind of method price is high, the risk is big, and very difficult choice or acquire every kind of pathological changes appearance; In addition the fatal weakness of this method is the changes of electric characteristic will happen if heart exposing in air, result in body surface electric potential take place the changes immediately, obviously, this kind of method has the very big localization. But virtual heart can resolve the above problem.The technology of visualization has been discussed which is applied to analyzing and processing medical image data, viz. representing heart's three dimension shape on the screen, via the visualization process of medical image data, with full consideration of the need of medical image processing, the domestic condition of medical treatment equipments, and characteristics of CT image.Firstly, virtual heart concept is introduced. And then an important application of visualization technique in medical field, namely medical visualization technique, is imported. Surrounding the technique, a series of processing algorithms on medical image visualization processing is presented and implemented. These work mainly include: (1) the obtains of medical image data; (2) the medical image data' pre-process;(3) volume rendering based texture mapping technique, low hardware cost is realized;(4) the virtual heart model using volume rendering based texture mapping technique is established. All of algorithms in this paper are implemented on microcomputer platform using JDK1.4 and Java 1.3.1.Medical image visualization promotes the medical science includes scientificresearch, teaching and clinical diagnoses, which is the research hotspot of current medical image processing, is not only far-reaching, but also developing vast space for computer science in the medical science.
