| The work conducted in this paper is one part in project of Research on the Application of Agent and Bluetooth Technology in Manufacturing System. Its aim is to establish a highly flexible system in workshop by applying intelligent slice, an entity based on agent and Bluetooth technology in traditional workshop or factory. Predictably, manufacturing system based on intelligent slice promises all the functions possessed in FMS and DNC and may avoid disadvantages in centralized control, for example low flexibility, low optimization and slow response to the changes. Thus the slice can applied to drive traditional manufacture reformed easily. And the research of intelligent slice may have impact to the advancement of domestic automation technology and its application level in workshop. Workshop that lies in the lower position of manufacture system acts as basic unit of management and execution. Its running state will determine the system efficiency of manufacture. This project aims to establish a newly distributed mode for the workshop control in order to meet the need of rapidly changed production in workshop. The paper puts its focus on communication among slices, which offers support to the intercourse and of production information. This paper first summarizes the situation and tendency of manufacture, workshop control and Bluetooth technology, indicates research significance of the project, then sets the corresponding communication model for the distributed control mode of workshop. Succeedingly it shows intercourse relations of objects in workshop and details message definition including the format, field meaning and coding. At the same time the designing and facture of Bluetooth slice, the physical carrier of controlling information, have also been discussed here. Finally according to the established communication model and message definition, a simulation is conducted on PC to testify the message-based communication of distributed controlling system.
