It is well known that one effective and robust network can not be departed fromnetwork management at any moment. Traditional network management approach ispractical, and it is very operative to carry out simple network management tasks. However , with the rapid development of network applications, network becomes morelarge-scaled and sophisticated, so traditional network management approach can notmeet network's needs. How to manage the large-scaled, distributed, heterogeneous, sophisticated networks efficiently become the vital issue and challenge that presentnetwork management must face up to.It is the development of distributed technology and object-oriented technology thathas open up a new way for us to resolve the conventional problems in the traditionalnetwork management. There are three mainstream technologies in distributed objectcomputing: OMG's CORBA,SUN MicroSystem's JavaBeans and Microsoft's DCOM.Among these three, CORBA has better standard ,extensibility and openness, whichmakes it play an improtant role in large distributed system developing. ExcellentCORBA technology has provided technology support for us by which we can rebuildtraditional network management system and exploit the new one.The thesis makes an introduction of the fundamental knowledge relevant tonetwork management and distributed computing technologies. The thesis gives ananalysis of the shortage of the framework of traditional network management, and takesthe current network and the network trend into consideration. Besides, the thesis delvesinto all kinds of methods of CORBA-based distributed network management, andmakes an overall comparison between them. Consequently, the thesis puts forward thoserespective architecture.Considering that SNMP is widely supported, and taking the applicationrequirement into account, the thesis puts a prototype system into effect to manage theSNMP-based network by making use of CORBA technology. Its functions are partiallyimplemented, and moreover its technical feasibility is validated.
