Web Services is a software architecture designed to support interoperable application-to-application interaction over a network. The interface of Web Services is described by the standard mechanism, and the applications can realize the operations, such as communication and data exchange, through the net. Web Services poses some technical advantages such as loose coupling and firewall-friendly, which meet the demand of Digital-Campus' multi-subsystem for data integration and share. With its applications scope expanding and further researching, Web Services composition is becoming the hot topic of research. Based on the current Web Services architecture, this paper discusses the typical patterns for Web Services composition and their suitable scenes, and introduces the idea of Web Services Engine, which is also based on the technology of Web Services. To meet the requirement of Digital-Campus and the development of Web Services, this paper has designed a framework using Web Services to publish and invoke the Web Services component in Digital-Campus. What this paper has done provides the theory and technical support for applications of Web Services.The primary contributions of this paper include the followings: Firstly, based on the architecture of Web Services and the project of SELF-SERV, this paper analyses mechanism of Web Services composition, and concludes four kinds of Web Services composition's pattern, the relationships between those components, and their application scenes.Secondly, this paper introduces the idea of Web Services engine by combining the idea of engine with the technology of Web Services, which realizes the consistency of request of Web Services in different databases. This method not only improves the efficiency for application system applying for Web Services, but also makes the realization of the application more terse and straightforward.Last, under the circumstance of the design of Digital-Campus, this paper builds Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) for campus and the web services component, and results of tests show the real-time, efficiency and reliability of Web Services component.
