The highway criterion retrieval and formulated calculation system is developed for the demand of the designers whose work is to design roads, bridges and tunnels. In the process of designing, designers need to retrieve lots of data from lager numbers of criterions and use some of them in complicated calculation in order to design the high-quality highway according with the demand of country and Party A. The traditional methods for these have some disadvantages, such as lack of efficiency, precision etc. Thus, designing and developing the highway criterion retrieval and formulated calculation system become the effective way of solving the problems above. The projects' designers can make retrieval and calculation quite efficiently with this system. For the sake of the market use, the system is designed according to the C/S structure. The application layer of the client terminal is developed by Visual Basic, while the data processing layer is based on the Access database. The advantages of this system can be described as the following:Firstly, the display interface is divided. The retrieval keywords of the related texts, images, tables and formulas are separately displayed so that the user can browse them very conveniently.Secondly, the retrieval way is easy. The system adopting the full-text retrieval methods can supply the user with the full database to search for the required information. Furthermore, both the retrieval of the key words and the method of random matching make the client get his desired information efficiently. The last, a dynamic formula interpreter is designed to display the calculating interface, and it can be generally used. In general, this system is practically and generally used. This paper includes six chapters. In chapter one, the background andthe meaning of the research on this system are introduced at first, then some pivotal techniques and functions are included . In chapter two, some theories about information retrieval are introduced, it also includes storage and access technologies of data. Chapter three is about the general analysis of the system, parts of the system are described in detail according to their functions. Chapter four is about the design of the system, the structure and database of the system are introduced. In chapter five, the realization of system is illustrated based on the realization of the parts as well as the solvents to the technical difficulties. Finally, the work in this paper is summarized in chapter six and some suggestions on further studies are given.
